We first spotted the work of artist Julia Pott in Small Magazine.
We became obsessed with her illustrations, and had to hunt her down.
We had questions to ask, and Ms. Pott was lovely enough to oblige!
Here is our exclusive Planet Awesome Kid interview:
Tell us about your inspirations:
I am very much inspired by contemporary illustrators like Jon Klassen, Luke Best and Megan Whitmarsh, work with a naive and humorous quality. I also look a lot to other animators, including Igor Kovalyov, Priit Parn and David O’Reilly. I love film and television and am currently obsessed with anything by Miranda July, Twin Peaks and wildlife documentaries. I love short stories, especially the collections of J.D. Salinger, Dave Eggers and Haruki Murakami. When I am feeling a little bit brain dead I haul my sketch book to the zoo or the natural history museum and just spend a day drawing and taking in the atmosphere and I tend to get a lot of ideas from that.
Tell us how and where people can purchase/commission your work?
I have an etsy shop where I sell a lot of prints, pillows, books, tote bags etc and you can find it here:

I also sell my work in shops across the U.S., U.K. and Europe.
I am always happy to take commissions if I am not too busy..I have drawn a lot of people’s pets dressed in ridiculous outfits which makes me happy.
Tell us anything you want the public to know about you + your work?
I draw a lot from personal experience and try to include a lot of humor in my work. I have just gone back to school to complete a Masters in Animation at the Royal College of Art and I am having an ace time and it has made me realize how lucky I am to be making a living doing what I love.
We love us some Julia Pott!
