day of 1,000 cranes

Join PLANET AWESOME KID on Saturday, July 30th from 1pm to 6pm in Tompkins Square Park for Day of A Thousand Cranes.  Sadako Sasaki was a 12-year-old girl who suffered radiation poisoning after the bombing of Hiroshima at the end of World War II.  Inspired by the legend that says a crane will grant you one wish if you fold 1000 of them, she tried to save her life by doing just that.  She died trying to complete her goal.  There is a memorial of her and her story in Hiroshima. For the complete story click here.

Due to the recent events in Fukushima, 45% of the children there are testing positive for radioactive thyroid glands. Through Day of A Thousand Cranes we hope to make wishes come true for children here in our local neighborhoods of New York and across the world in Japan by supporting the Make-A-Wish Foundation’s NYC Metro Area and Japan chapters.  For a minimum donation of a dollar, come fold a crane and help grant a wish for a child in need, and you will put us one crane closer to reach and exceed our goal.  You can make a dream come true for a sick or dying child.

We will fill Tompkins Square Park with hope and inspiration as we connect the universal message of hope, strength and love across the globe through the love and strength of the New York community.

fashion kismet

Meeting this gorgeous creature and her beautiful, super chic grandmother Abigail Stone was fashion kismet!

First, as a casting director, I fell hard for the little girl running around the playground like something out of a fairy tale.

Then, I had the pleasure of meeting and chatting with her grandmother, Abigail.

I came to find out that the insanely cool and retro-tastic dress that this mini-dreamy was wearing was designed by her grandmother!

What?????   How cool is that?

The brand is called NONNA and we are in love!

Abigail began making children’s clothing 6 years ago after years of making doll clothing.  She is a collector of antique clothing both for children and adults, and antique doll clothing as well.  She has always admired the fine fabrics of antique clothing and was endlessly disappointed in the everyday clothing of today simply because the fabrics are so often synthetic and unnatural. She decided to make children’s clothing of silks and fine cottons and other natural materials.  Why shouldn’t children wear the most exquisite fabrics?  Many of her children’s dresses are made of raw silk, silk taffeta, tissue silk, and cotton.  Most are hand washable and are both hand sewn and machine sewn and are of the highest quality of fabrics available.  Sometimes she will add antique ribbon or lace to a dress.

NONNA is a private label available for sale exclusively through Abigail herself, so do send her an email to find out more!
