There’s so much advice available on how to make the most out of small rooms. But, small rooms can be warming and cosy. What if you’ve got a larger than usual bedroom? It can be hard to create a cosy and comforting bedroom if you’ve got high ceilings and lots of empty space. Large bedrooms can feel cold and impersonal if you’re not careful with your décor. Here are some great tips to make sure your large bedroom is warm, cosy and the perfect place to relax at the end of a long day.
Oversized Furniture
The best thing about having a bigger bedroom is that you don’t have to worry about furniture. In smaller rooms, you have to plan where everything will fit and sometimes make sacrifices. In a larger bedroom, you have much more freedom.
Extra wide sleigh beds for the bigger bedrooms are a great way to create a cool focal point while filling a good portion of your room. Add some cosy bedding and extra blankets and you’re well on your way to a warming bedroom.
Add other furniture such as shelving, bedside tables, wardrobes, dressing tables and drawers to make the most of the space.
Darker Colours
It’s often a good idea to stick to lighter colours in your bedroom, as they can be more relaxing. But, they can also make the room appear larger and airier, which you don’t want. If you chose to keep your walls light, add some darker shades in accessories, bedding and soft furnishings to create a cosy, romantic setting.
Soft Furnishings
Soft furnishings are the best way to make any room cosier. Add comfort with fluffy blankets, rugs, extra pillows and cushions, throws and seating. Nice big comfortable chairs aren’t an option in smaller rooms but can look great in a larger bedroom.
A Reading Nook
Section a corner of your room off to create a cosy reading nook. Fill it with seating, cushions, blankets, book shelves and storage. Add a small table so you’ve got somewhere to put a hot drink when you’re reading. Think of it as a separate zone in your bedroom. If you wanted, you could take the zonal feeling further and add a dressing zone too.
Wall Hangings
Wall hangings are a great way to make it feel like the walls are closer. While pictures and photos are a brilliant way to personalise your room, large wall hangings and tapestries can really fill the walls and warm the room.
Lighting
Bright lights are great. But, in a larger room, it’s important to have more options. Bedside lamps and a lamp or lantern light in your reading nook are musts. But, you could add other smaller lights to your walls, or hang some cute fairy lights. These lights give you chance to have softer lighting which makes the room seem smaller and warmer and can help you to relax at the end of the day.
Having a bigger bedroom has its advantages so be sure to make the most of it. Fill it with things that you love to create your own personal haven from the world.
