Be Careful When Playing Sports

You can still play sports and have healthy and protected teeth; you just need to be careful and sensible. Never play high-impact sports without protecting your teeth, as one aggressive tackle or ball to the face could spell disaster. Losing your teeth can have a serious impact on your self-esteem and can be extremely costly to have repaired. When playing sports, always wear a mouthguard and a helmet if the sport you’re engaging in is particularly rough and fast-paced.

Keep Them Shiny And Healthy

The best way to care for your teeth is to, of course, regularly see the dentist and the hygienist too. A dentist will be able to ensure that you don’t lose your teeth prematurely as they can sort out your mouth and dental health over the course of a few visits – visits that you should be making every six months. Keep them shiny and healthy by having teeth stains removed, having them professionally cleaned, and remembering to routinely floss at home, as well as trying to use an electric toothbrush over a manual one.

Flossing your teeth should be introduced into your mouth and tooth care routine if you haven’t already. Flossing allows you to clean almost all of each tooth’s surface area after brushing. Brushing alone cannot give you an entire clean, so you should be flossing your teeth to remove plaque and leftover food, as well as rinsing your mouth with mouthwash to remove bacteria from the inside of your cheeks and tongue too.

Many people grind their teeth as they sleep, and overtime can cause damage to the teeth and lead to them having a very flat appearance. If you grind your teeth in your sleep, then you should try and wear a nightguard to stop you being able to do so. Consult the issue with your dentist to try and see if you can find a solution, but in the meantime, use rubber mouthguards so that you’re physically unable to grind your bottom teeth along the top ones.

Avoid Smoking

If you want to look after your pearly whites, then you should give up smoking with immediate effect. Not only is smoking exceptionally damaging to your overall health, but it can also lead to staining, decay, and tooth loss. Many smokers will lose their teeth to decay over their lifetime, and it can happen much more sooner than you might think. You might be able to see a difference and spot stains as little as a month after taking up smoking. So, with this in mind, try everything within your power to quit.
